The Plan
The following is a summary of what we decided needs to happen at our meeting on Monday, October 9 at the Bernhard Center.
- We agreed that there isn't a whole lot more that needs to be done, that we can actually do on our own
- Such as getting WMU to publicly commit to getting student input for stuff like the parking lot
- It was said that the WSA may be passing something related to this
- Sponsoring our own WSA resolution would be fine, but nobody has time, and it would be mostly pointless
- Chalking was way fun, but only good for awareness, and we think that the awareness isn't going much higher, its already pretty high
- Such as getting WMU to publicly commit to getting student input for stuff like the parking lot
- Someone suggested the following brilliant idea... TSHIRTS!
- Sell them on the parking lot, a well designed shirt would definitely sell!
- N
eed to be an RSO to distribute the shirts on campus, so we're contacting RSO's to see if they're willing to partner with us on thisOtherwise we'll just create our own RSO (not the preferred route at this time)- We have created an RSO!

The following is a summary of what we decided needs to happen at our meeting on Thursday, September 13 at the Bernhard Center.
- We decided that our goal at this point is simple, we want to raise awareness of this issue and promote further transparency of major WMU decisions to ensure disasters like this don't happen again.
- We will not create our own RSO, but will try to align with other existing student groups to help raise awareness.
- This is a bi-partisan issue, so most students/groups will be interested in it. ie.. college dems, republicans, etc.
- W
e need to create a press releaseIt should emphasize the positive student response -- facebook group now has over 330 members, and is still growing 100 members/day
Need to send to Western Herald and Kalamazoo GazetteWe will collaborate on the press releasevia Google Documents. If you want to help edit it, please send us an email.
- Each RSO has a mailbox. We should create individualized and generic flyers and place them in each RSO's mailbox to raise more awareness about this issue. There are some RSO's that will be more interested in specific aspects of our goals, but all students will be interested to know this information.
If a press release doesn't generate any interest, then we should write a letter to the editor, with roughly the same goals- No longer needed!
- We want to generate interest in the WSA, and possibly get them to pass a motion concerning this. We will need to contact WSA people to find out the proper procedure for doing this.
Due to litter concerns and lack of participation, we will only be chalking the parking lot. This will be done on Monday, September 24 at 8PM. Meet at the parking lot if you're interested. We have chalk, but feel free to bring your own. We will label each element of the lot with its price. We do need to ensure that we adhere to the official chalk guidelines -- no vertical surfaces, no covered surfaces, etc.We will need to draw attention to the chalk, as just drawing on the lot will not be sufficient. Some individuals will be drawing on other areas to direct people to the chalk.
If you want to help, contact us and let us know what you want to help with. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Of course, we are open to more ideas as well. This is just what we've discussed and agreed upon so far. Let us know if you have more ideas!
